“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Did you know that you’re gifted? Did you know that God made you in His image, and as such you have a specific talent that He bestowed upon you in order that you may glorify His name?

Have you ever wondered to yourself, “what good am I to God? I’m not good at anything.” Or maybe you feel like you are very generous in service, but not with your money, and maybe that’s not okay?

Well, I’m here to tell you that it is okay. That, no matter what you do or think; God loves you regardless. Isn’t that a great feeling?

What are spiritual gifts?

I love the book of Corinthians because it addresses the Church as being a body, made up of multiple members that use teamwork to get the job done. We are not all the same, God made each and every one of us unique, and with different abilities, capabilities, and gifts!

In 1 Corinthians 12:8; Paul mentions specific spiritual gifts:

  • Wisdom
  • Knowledge
  • Faith
  • Healing
  • Miracles
  • Prophesy
  • Various tongues (languages)
  • Interpretation of tongues

And then further down he mentions the spiritual gifts again but a little more specifically:

  • Apostles (missionaries)
  • Teachers
  • Miracles
  • Healing
  • Helping
  • Administering
  • Various tongues

Paul writes to the Ephesians about spiritual gifts as well:

  • Apostles
  • Prophets
  • Evangelists
  • Shepherds
  • Teachers

Paul again mentions spiritual gifts to the Romans:

  • Prophecy
  • Teaching
  • Exhortation
  • Leading
  • Giving
  • Serving
  • Acts of kindness

Peter also writes about how we are to be proper stewards of the spiritual gift God has bestowed upon us, whether that be of speaking or serving.

What is your spiritual gift?

Well, I don’t know about you, but I found all of this extremely encouraging. To know that God has a purpose for each and every one of us, and we each have unique gifts we were made to act on.

It can also be pretty overwhelming too though. How do you know what’s what? What is yours? How do you act on it? Well, I think that is something you have to come up with yourself, through lots of prayers; and yes, maybe even trial and error.

But to figure out what your gift is, maybe it would be helpful to have a condensed modern-day take on what exactly these spiritual gifts are, and this is exactly what I am here to provide!

  • Shepherds (pastors)
  • Apostles (missionaries)
  • Evangelists
  • Teachers
  • Service
  • Giving
  • Faith (prayer, miracles, healing)

So there you have it. If you still aren’t sure what yours is, ask God today, and He will help you.

Maybe you know what your gift is, then go and act on it! Just remember, that we need to be doing anything for God with love. Otherwise, it’s pointless.

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:1-3‬ ESV)
